Jacqueline Fernandez hails from Manama in Bahrain. She grew up in an ethnically diverse family. Jacqueline's father Elroy is Sri Lankan (Catholic Sinhalese) and her mother, Kim is a Malaysian. She has two brothers and an older sister. The family have moved to Bahrain during the 1980s because of the Lankan tensions and her birth and education were in Bahrain. She was given a scholarship to go to an undergraduate program at the University of Sydney in Sydney Australia after she had completed her studies in Bahrain. As a lover of all different cultures and languages, she was a part of the Berlitz school of languages, which is where she began to learn Spanish as well as improve her French and Arabic. Miss Sri Lanka 2006 won Miss Universe 2006 competition in March of 2006, and later competed as Miss Universe 2006 also. Following her victory in 2006, Miss Sri Lanka win, Padukone made her debut on television and hosted a program about Sri Lankan businesses called Lanka Business Report. Padukone's father is a professional badminton player Prakash Padukone. Padukone has been raised both in Copenhagen as well as Bangalore. She played badminton at the national championships as young teenagers, however she decided to give her sporting career in order to become a model. Padukone is of Mangalorean heritage, and her mother tongue is Konkani. Padukone is a village in the Kundapura Taluk of Karnataka's Udupi District. Prakash Padukone has retired as an internationally renowned badminton athlete, while her mother also works as a travel advisor.
